In 1923, amidst the pristine beauty of the Robertson Valley, Kay and Sebastian Smuts purchased a piece of land they named Lucerne - inspired by Kay's precious memories of her time in the town of the same name in Switzerland. There, amidst hills and valleys, Kay began her farming journey with determination and vision. At first it was ducks and chickens that brought Lucerne to life, but soon the ground was prepared for something bigger: grapevines, which would lay the foundation for a long and proud family tradition.
