Nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Witzenberg Mountains and with impressive views of the idyllic Tulbagh Valley, the vineyards of Schalkenbosch Wine Estate extend far outside Tulbagh. With soils similar to the French Rhône Valley soils and a unique microclimate, the winery benefits from ideal growing conditions. Morning sun, which appears late, and cool fog, which occurs most nights, combined with warm daytime temperatures, ensure an optimal ripening climate for grapes from which premium wines are produced.

With a strong commitment to sustainability, Schalkenbosch Wine Estate holds a leading position among the top 10 Biodiversity and Wine Initiative Champions, an exclusive circle of only 27 South African wineries. In addition, the EnviroWines® certificate received in 2014 testifies to the winery's environmentally friendly practices.

Two characteristic product lines, Schalkenbosch and Edenhof, represent the diversity and quality of Schalkenbosch Vineyards. In 2014, the winery expanded its range by introducing high quality olives and olive oil from the neighboring Groote Vallei Farm, also sold under the Schalkenbosch name.
