Thelema Mountain Vineyards
Thelema winery is located right on the edge of the Simonsberg Nature Reserve and, despite its young age, is an icon among the wineries in the Stellenbosch region – the first wine with the Thelema label was sold in 1988.
The history of the current Thelema winery began in 1983 when Gyles and his wife Barbara acquired the somewhat run-down Thelema fruit farm.
It was the enjoyment of a Burgundy Puligny Montrachet that prompted Gyles Webb to put down his calculator, give up his career in finance and become a winemaker. After graduating in Oenology from Stellenbosch University, he worked on many wine farms in South Africa and around the world.
Thomas Webb, Gyle's son, is now the most important part of the winery, he is responsible for sales and administration. The small family business has now blossomed into a sizeable family concern.
The vineyards have an optimal location, between 370 m and 640 m above sea level, south-facing slopes and probably one of the coolest farms in the area around the Helshoogte Pass.
Perfect conditions for great wines!!
