Boplaas Family Vineyards
Boplaas is located in Calitzdorp, a small picturesque village in the Southern Cape in the majestic Little Karoo. The Nel family is part of a rich legacy that stretches back more than 150 years.
The history of the Nel family goes back to the time when the Huguenots came to South Africa and the Nel family bought the Blaauwklippen Farm in Stellenbosch in 1690.
“Boplaas” is the name of the higher (bo) farm (plaas).
Boplaas is a family business with Carel Nel as Cape Wine Master, owner and cellar master. The winery has received numerous awards for Cape Vintages and as a wine producer overall over the last decade.
In 2017, Daniel Nel started producing whiskey and his Boplaas Single Grain Whisky won the Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Award 2018.
